Featured Development
Morning Star, West Belfast
Morning Star sees not only the development of new build family housing and apartments but also the retention of a 19th century bank which will be converted into three houses. The 17 new homes have been designed by the NIHE Design Services and are being constructed by Wilson and Mawhinney Limited. Building work commenced on site in March 2005 and is expected to complete in September 2006.
Fold Housing Association, together with the Housing Executive and the local community, have developed what is a unique housing development and one in which everyone can take great pride. Integrating the “Wee Bank” into the plans has been a difficult task, however it ensures that a cherished element of the area’s built heritage is retained and reused.
The new homes will be constructed to EcoHomes Standards which underlines Fold’s commitment to energy efficiency and reconfirms our quest to develop properties of the highest quality. Furthermore Fold Housing Association undertakes to provide the highest possible standards of housing management services to all the tenants of the new houses.
Fold have worked closely with community representatives, the NIHE and the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society in the development of the scheme which demonstrates another excellent example of what can be achieved when all parties work together for the good of the community.
Sunnyside House, Bangor
Sunnyside House was completed and handed over to the Presbyterian Residential Trust in late May 2005. This building replaces the old Sunnyside House on the Donaghadee Road in Bangor. The old building provided accommodation for 25 people but did not comply with the new disability regulations and could not be revamped.
Fold, in partnership with the Presbyterian Residential Trust have worked on this development for several years and are now delighted with the result. The new building has 45 ensuite rooms, a guest room for visitors, dining rooms, an activities room, a contemplation room /lounge, a hairdresser’s salon and each of the five wings has a sun room for the residents to enjoy peace and quiet. There is also an enclosed garden and car parking for staff and visitors.
