Castle Erne is Officially Opened

Brian Rowntree CBE, Chairman of the NIHE, officially opened Fold’s newest scheme providing temporary accommodation for the homeless in the Enniskillen area.

Castle Erne provides eleven apartments, three and five person, for adults who have been made homeless, residents are welcome to stay for up to two years whilst they search for a permanent home.

After an uncertain beginning Castle Erne overcoming several setbacks and now provides a much needed resource. Fold and the NIHE formed a partnership that benefits the residents by providing them with stability, help and support to gain valuable life skills and assist residents to find a permanent home. Castle Erne has no permanent staff making it unique certainly in Ireland if not in the UK, with its success generating interest nationally as a model for homeless provision, particularly the floating support element both whilst resident in the scheme and after they leave.

Mr Cameron, Chairman of Fold, commented “Castle Erne is a tribute to the hard work Fold and the Housing Executive have made, by having the strength to see solution and not problems enabled us to developing a unique delivery model that supports some of the most vulnerable in society. Since the first resident moved in Spring 2009 we have welcomed 46 people through our doors, with 12 leaving us after finding a permanent home.”
