Fold Housing Association and the Housing Executive looked on as work got underway on 26 new homes in the Lawnbrook area of the Shankill.
Fold Housing Association will build and manage the new homes; which are being provided as part of the Housing Executive’s Greater Shankill Housing and Regeneration Strategy.
This is the first phase of the redevelopment project at Lawnbrook and Jacqui Gilmore, Area Housing Manager with Fold Housing Association said:
“Investing in new housing developments which can bring positive improvements for communities are an important aspect of the work carried out by Fold Housing Association. Together with the Housing Executive and the local community I feel we have come up with a housing development in which everyone can take great pride.
This first phase, which will be constructed to Lifetime Homes Standard and Secured by Design and Code for Sustainable Homes’, underpins Fold’s commitment to provide a high quality environment for the local community and caters for modern day living and all its requirements.
Furthermore we undertake to provide the highest possible standards of housing management services to all tenants of the new homes.”
Derelict houses at Battenberg Street were demolished to facilitate the new homes and Gail Green, the Housing Executive’s Assistant District Manager for the area added:
“The Housing Executive recently transferred the land at Battenberg Street to Fold Housing Association, so I’m delighted to be here today to see the first phase of new homes getting underway. You have only to look at the new social housing already provided in the vicinity and the private homes built at Lanark Way to see the major role which housing has played in transforming the Shankill area in recent years.
The Housing Executive remains committed to the regeneration of the Shankill area and we will continue to work closely with local communities, our partners in the housing association movement and private developers to achieve this throughout the Shankill area.”
Paul Ferguson, local Development Worker, concluded by saying,
“On behalf of the Mid-Shankill community I am delighted that this development in now underway. We have worked closely with FOLD Housing Association and they have held regular meetings with the Mid Shankill Residents Group to keep the community involved. I look forward to this continuing as the development progresses.”
